The Perform mode records you with the front-facing camera playing and singing along to the chords and lyrics displayed on the screen. Fender’s 35 Riffstation desktop app, which helps you break down songs to learn its chords and riffs at your own pace, is now available for free on macOS and Windows. The chords can be laid out for a guitar, ukelele or piano. So you if you want to play along to that killer solo, you will still have to get the individual notes somewhere else on the web. Currently in beta, Riffstation Play is a free web-based app that figures out a song’s chords by analyzing its YouTube video. The app doesn’t provide guitar tabs, though, just chords. The app has three modes called Practice, Play-along and Perform. Currently it covers 750,000 songs, so you should be able to find something in there you like. You can even specify capo placement, or switch between open and power chords. The app scans songs and show you the chords used throughout, complete with finger placement guides. It’s integrated with Apple Music, so if you want to actually play along to the song, you’ll need to have a subscription for that as well. Windows/macOS: Fender’s Riffstation can scan any audio file then help you learn how to play it on your guitar. Fender Songs uses a chord detection algorithm that analyses the waveform of the source audio to provide you with chord boxes to play along with.
